Des Moines in the Services

Two Des Moines WAVES have been graduated from the yeoman school at Cedar Falls, Ia. They are Bernice E. Devitt, 1659 Northwest drive, and Helen M. Youngmark, 1112 E Eighth st. Both women were promoted to yeoman, third class.

Youngmark Dies in Italy

Mrs. G. Youngmark, 1112 E Eight st., has been informed by the war department that her son, Sergt. Roy W. Youngmark, 33, died July 2 in Italy. He had been overseas three months and was recently moved to the Italian front.

Sergeant Youngmark was a drummer before entering service in November, 1942 and was in his division infantry band. He was a graduate of East High school.

Surviving, besides his mother are his widow, Mrs. Jo Ann Youngmark, and two children, Suzanne and Roy, now living in Kokomo, Ind., and two sisters, Mrs. Odis Davidson of Des Moines and Yeoman Helen M. Youngmark of the WAVES.

Helen Youngmark, yeoman, third class, who has been serving with the WAVES at Port Columbus, Ohio, has been given an honorable discharge. En Route to Des Moines, Miss Youngmark will visit her sister-in-law, Mrs Roy W. Youngmark of Kokomo, Ind. Her brother, Roy, was killed accidentally in Italy July 2, while serving with the infantry. Upon her return, Miss Youngmark will make her home with her mother, Mrs. G. Youngmark, 1112 E Eighth st.
