Pvt. Verna Silvers

 

Most Iowa WACs Coming From Military Families:

Private Verna Silvers, daughter of Mrs. Nellie Silvers of Webster City, is a sister of the late Roland J. Silvers, who died in Great Britain last year while serving with the U.S. Army. Previous to her enlistment she was a clerk at the McNerney Drug Store, Des Moines.  She is now on duty at Fort Des Moines.

Verna Silvers Is Married

Post chapel at Fort Des Moines was the setting a t7 p.m. Friday for the wedding of Corp Verna Silvers of Des Moines, daughter of Mrs. Nellie Silvers of Webster City, Ia., and William H. Stevens, Jr., son of Mrs Anna L. Stevens, 3109 Second ave.

Capt. R.C. Graham, chaplain, performed the ceremony preceding which Technician Fifth Grade Phyllis McCreary played a program of nuptial numbers and accompanied by Technician Fifth Grade Ruth Kirby, who sang.

The ceremony was performed in the presence of the bride's company of the WAC Detachment 1741, the immediate families and friends.

The bride wore her off-duty dress with a corsage of white carnations. She was given in marriage by John R. Alexander of Des Moines. Mrs. D.V. Greene of Des Moines attended her and Marvin Gemricher of Polk City, Ia., attended Mr. Stevens.

Following a short trip Mr. and Mrs. Stevens will live at 3109 Second ave.

Verna Silvers was born Jan. 6, 1915 to Ward J. and Nellie M. Crosby Silvers. She married (1) Harold Cosgrove (2) William H. Stevens. She is buried at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, IA.
