Evelyn Darlene Palmer of Nodaway, has enlisted in the WAVES - SPARS in Des Moines, according to an announcement made by the publicity department of the Navy Recruiting Service.

FAREWELL PARTY

A party was held at the home of Ina Russell June 17 with twelve present. The evening was spent playing games. The guests presented Miss Evelyn Palmer with a gift of money as she has joined the WAVES and expects to be called into service soon. Refreshments were served by the hostess.

3 Iowa Girls Among WAVES First Cooks

New York, N.Y. - The navy announced Sunday that the WAVES only school for cooks and bakers, at the "U.S.S. Hunter" in the Bronx had graduated its first class, including Cleo Mortensen, Spencer, Ia.; June Cox, Mason City, Ia.; and Evelyn Palmer, Nodaway, Ia.
