Mrs. Sidney Misner is Inducted Into W.A.A.C.

Adding to Waterloo's representation in the Women's Army Auxiliary corps at Fort Des Moines will be Mrs. Sidney Misner, who was inducted Tuesday into the reserve corps by Capt. Robert Jaques, army recruiting officer in Des Moines

Mrs. Misner, formerly Helen Louise Roberts, took the preliminary examinations for the officer's candidate school, then applied for the rank of private. Because she is now on reserve call, the date when she will officially enter the training is indefinite.

A graduate of East High school, Mrs. Misner is the daughter of Mrs. Regina Roberts, 412 1/2 East Fourth street. She and Mr. Misner make their home at 206 Moir street. He is employed as an inspector for the John Deere Tractor company.

WAAC Enters Officer Class

Mrs. Helen Misner of Waterloo this week entered the third officer candidate class to be chosen from the ranks of the Women's Army Auxiliary corps.

Ahead of her lie eight weeks of intensive training in the officer candidate school at Fort Des Moines, Ia. Behind her are either other weeks spent at the fort. The first four of these eight weeks were spent in basic training. During the last four Mrs. Misner worked in the personnel office, handling military correspondence.

Mrs. Misner's husband, J. SIdney Misner, is int he United States coast guard reserve and is now at St. Paul, Minn.

Before coming to Des Moines, Mrs. Misner worked in the Paramount theater, as clerk for Galloway company, and as bookkeeper and cashier for Jordan's clothing store She is the daughter of Mrs. Regina Roberts, 512 1/2 East Fourth street.

WATERLOO WOMEN WERE DONNING THEIR COUNTRY'S UNIFORM during 1942, and by the end of the year the city was well represented in both the women's auxiliary corps and the Waves, the Navy adjunct. Typical of such recruits were Mrs. Helen Misner, former theater cashier whose husband is in the coast guard reserve at St. Paul, Minn., and Miss Dorothy Taffner, 321 River Forest road. Mrs. Misner is now in officers training class at the WAAC Fort Des Moines base, having been chosen from the ranks. She is the daughter of Mrs. Regina Roberts, 512 1/2 East Fourth street. Miss Taffner, former cashier at Walker's shoe store, has been assigned to the Waves storekeeper school at the University of Indiana, Bloomington.
