Miss Lund New Recruit for WACs

Miss Geraldine Lund, 206 North Federal, is Mason City's newest recruit to the WACs. Miss Lund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.P. Lund of Emmestburg, will be called into service sometime in February.

The enlistee has been employed at the Northwestern Bell Telephone company as telephone operator, supervisor and for the past year in the commercial department. She is a graduate of the Mason City high school.

Miss Lund has been recommended for communications work in the air-WACs and will receive 6 weeks basic training before being assigned to an air force installation. WACs are now serving in many foreign countries doing 239 types of army jobs.

As a member of the army, Miss Lund will be entitled to soldiers benefits, including insurance, with equal opportunity for promotion. All officers are chosen from the enlisted personnel.

HERE ON FURLOUGH -- Cpl. Geraldine Lund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.P. Lund of Hawarden, is spending part of a 15-day furlough at the home of her sister, Mrs. Keith C. Frantz. Cpl. Lund, who was formerly employed at the Telephone company in Mason City, entered the Air-WAC in January, 1944, and for the past 10 months has been stationed at San Francisco, Cal., in communications. She will return there at the end of her furlough.
