Iowa Girl Joins Navy Nurse Corps as Cadet

Osage -- Rose Catherine Comisky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Comisky, reported this week to Oakland, Cal., as a senior cadet navy nurse. After preliminary training, she will qualify as an ensign.

She was graduated from Burr Oak No. 5, Mitchell county rural school, then from Osage high school and Sunday was graduated from Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Osage -- Rose Catherine Comisky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Comisky, has been commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. navy nurses corps, and reported for duty at Great Lakes naval hospital at Great Lake,Ill. Ensign Comisky is a graduate of Osage high school, attended St. Theresa's college at Winona, Minn., and received her nurses' training at Mercy hospital at Cedar Rapids, completing her training as a cadet nurse at the U.S naval hospital in Oakland, Cal. Before her enlistment she was employed as a nurse at the Cedar Valley hospital at Charles City.

Navy Nurse Is Bride of Air Corps Veteran

Osage -- At the Sacred Heart church, Osage, Ensign Rose Comisky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Comisky, became the bride of John Halbach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Halbach of Charles City. Officiating at the double ring ceremony was Father Arthur Halbach, brother of the bridegroom.

The bride was graduated from Osage high school attended St. Theresa's college, Winona, Minn., and was graduated from the Mercy school of nursing, Cedar Rapids. She has served for the past year in the U.S. Navy Nurses corps, and will report to navy hospital Oakland, Cal.

The bridegroom was graduated from the Charles City high school and Iowa State College, Ames. Following is graduation he entered service, and served as a lieutenant in the army air corps for 3 years, serving overseas in the European theater of war. He has just recently received his honorable discharge.

Rose Catherine Comisky Halbach was born Feb. 12, 1922 to Clement Thomas and Ruth Agnes Byrnes Comisky. She died June 26, 2003 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls, IA.

Ens. Halbach served in World War II with the U.S. Navy WAVES. She was married to John F. Halbach.
