Lt. Jeanne Gavin

 

Miss Jeanne Gavin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril J. Gavin of this city, has received her commission as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurses's corps, and arrived home Wednesday for a two-week visit at home prior to reporting at the new Schick hospital at Clinton. Miss Gavin is a graduate of St. Xavier's school at Manchester and later attended college at St. Teresa at Winona, Minn. She graduated last May from St Mary's hospital at Rochester, Minn.

Army Nurse Married at Manchester

Manchester -- Lt. Jeanne Gavin, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril J. Gavin, Manchester, Wednesday at 3 p.m. became the bride of Lt. Hillman J. Bishop in a ceremony read at the rectory of St. Mary's Catholic church here by the pastor, Rev. Fr. John J. Smith.

The bride, who is a registered nurse, wore an army nurse uniform and a corsage of white roses. Attending the couple were the bride's parents and only immediate relatives of the couple witnessed the double ring ceremony.

They met at Ft. Jackson, S.C. during their service there, and later both were assigned to the European theater.

The bride expects to receive her discharge within a few days. She is a graduate of a school of nursing at Rochester, Minn.

Her husband, a son of E.I. Bishop, Durant, Okla., was with the 10th armored division in France, Luxembourg and Germany, and wears the silver star, and the Purple Heart with two clusters and three campaign stars.
