PETTY OFFICER RATING --Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Benton, 314 1-2 East Second street, have received word that their daughter, Martha Jean Benton, has been promoted to petty officer, pharmacist mate third class in the WAVES. She entered in the WAVES on August, 24, 1944, taking her boot training at Hunters college, N.Y. She has been stationed at the U.S. Naval hospital at San Diego, Calif, since Oct. 1.

Martha Jean Benton Summers Humiston was born Mar. 10, 1924 to Charles and Gladys Bicknell Benton. (She served as Martha Jean Summers). She died Apr. 9, 1983. She was married to Charles Raymond Humiston. Charles was a WWII veteran.
