Lt. (jg) Miriam B. Beckhoff

 

 

First Iowan

The first Iowa enlisted member of the WAVES to be assigned to officer training is Miriam Beckhoff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Beckhoff, 4616 Center st.

Miss Beckhoff, who has been an instructor at the yeoman school for WAVES at the University of Georgia, Milledgeville, Ga., will report to Smith college, Northampton, Mass, Saturday. She is home on a 4-day leave.

Before joining the WAVES last October, Miss Beckhoff was French teacher in the Newton, Ia., High school.

Des Moines in the Services

Miriam Belle Beckhoff has been commissions an ensign in the WAVES at Northampton, Mass., and assigned to active duty. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Beckhoff, 4616 Center st. Ensign Beckhoff is a graduate of the University of Iowa and also took her masters degree there. Before entering the WAVES, she was a French teacher at the university.

Mrs. A.H. Beckhoff, 4616 Center st., returned Thursday after a two weeks visit with her daughter, Ensign Miriam Beckhoff of Washington, D.C. While in the east, Mrs. Beckhoff and her daughter visited New York City and Boston, Mass. Ensign Beckhoff is with the ordnance department of the navy.
