Emmajean Gladys Banes

Joins WAVES

Another Oelwein girl to answer the call to the colors is Emma Gladys Banes, daughter of Mrs. Lottie Banes, route 2, who enlisted in the Waves Nov. 8. She will leave for Hunter College, New York, for her basic training in the near future and at that time will be given tests to determine further schooling in one of the 246 different divisions of the service.

"The Waves started out with only 11 different jobs but have done such wonderful work and have shown such marked efficiency the commanders of shore stations have asked for an unlimited number of Waves," R.K. Ingvoldstad, special recruiter for the U.S. Navy stated today.
