Herbert Melvin Whiteaker was born July 27, 1916 to William R. and Nellie Miller Whiteaker. He died Oct. 16, 1991 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Sgt. Whiteaker served with the U.S. Army in World War II (European Theater) and Korea.

Herbert Whiteaker, 75, Webster City, died early this morning, Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Hamilton County Hospital, where he had been a patient for one week. He had been in failing health for four years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Graveside flag-folding services will be conducted by American Legion Post 191 of Webster City. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 5 pm. Friday until service time Saturday.

Herbert Melvin Whiteaker, son of William and Nellie (Miller) Whiteaker, was born July 27, 1916, in What Cheer, Iowa. At the age of 5, he moved with his parents to Webster City, where he was educated. He married Grace Comstock on March 15, 1941, in Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City and Illinois. Mr. Whiteaker served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre and Korean War from 1942 to 1954. He returned to Webster City and was employed at Hart-Carter for 16 years, and Modern Farms for five years. He had been retired for the past 13 years.

He is survived by his wife, Grace, Webster City; five sisters and a brother, Annis Short, Silvis, Ill.; Winona Skeel, Milan, Ill.; Elizabeth Eckley, Boone; Winafred Roe and Elsie Heidick, both of Webster City; and Henry Whiteaker, Mesa, Ariz.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and two half-brothers.

Mr. Whiteaker was a member of the Webster City A.A. Club.
