Men from Carroll and Glidden Also Among 234 Taken

Washington—The war department made public Tuesday the names of 234 soldiers, including 10 Iowans, held as prisoners of war by the Japanese at an unstated camp. The Iowa men included:
Private Howard D. Wilkinson, son of Mrs. Clara L. Watts, who resides at 2702 Douglas Street, Sioux City.
Private First Class Robert W. Trafford, son of Hubert A. Trafford, Glidden.
Private First Class Edward W. Tyrrell, son of Mrs. Anna Tyrrell, Carroll.

Robert W. Trafford was born Nov. 25, 1919 to Herbert and Alma Jane Tharp Trafford. He died June 17, 1998 and is buried in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Fort Dodge, IA.

Pvt. Trafford served in World War II with the U.S. Army and was taken prisoner by the Japanese at Corregidor in the Philippines and was in the Bataan Death March. He was a POW in Japan for 40 months.
