James Eugene ‘Jim’ Thorson was born Dec. 20, 1923 to Ira and Gertrude Matilda Teig Thorson. He died July 15, 2013 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Story City, IA.

Jim served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

His Obituary:

James “Jim” Eugene Thorson, 89, of Jewell, passed away at his home on July 15, 2013. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Jim was born December 20, 1923 to Ira and Gertrude (Teig) Thorson in Story City, Iowa. He married Joyce Olson on September 12, 1944. Jim was a veteran of WWII, serving from 1943 to 1945. He was a farmer and lived in the Story City area all his life. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Story County Shriners. Jim liked to go hunting, fishing and trapping. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce of rural Jewell; one son, Richard (Becky) Thorson of rural Story City; two daughters, Sharon Thorson of Longmont, Colorado and Janet Boehme of Ames; two sisters, Beverly Petzenhauser of Auburn, Iowa and Joyce Hanson of rural Jewell; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Katie), Erica (Matt), Melissa (Adam), Megan (Justin), Jennifer, Matt and Christina; and seven great-grandchildren, Alana, Jocelyn, Valerie, Lilly, Lane, Aiden and Alex. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Swanson; and a brother, Irvin Thorson.
