Lt. DeVere Oliver Thompson

 

DeVere Oliver Thompson was born Oct. 5, 1915 to Oliver Perkins and Arabella Macomber Thompson. He died Apr. 18, 1944 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.

Lt. Thompson served in World War II with the U.S. Army and served with troops between Bizerta and Tunis where he was captured by some Germans of the Afrika Korps and became a POW for nearly 10 months. He escaped and returned to his own army and was flown back to the U.S. and sent to Fort Benning, GA where he was an instructor in the Weapons Section of the Infantry school when he was fatally injured.
