S/Sgt. Robert A. Thirstrup

 

 

Three Sioux City men are stationed at the army air forces redistribution center at Santa Ana, Cal., where they are being examined and reassigned to domestic stations of the air force. They are S. Sgt. Stanley H. Singpiel, son of Mrs. G. R. Wannick, 1502 Jones Street; S. Sgt. Russell J. Reemts, son of Mrs. Anna Reemts, 2207 Boies Street, and S. Sgt. Robert A.Thirstrup, foster son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Campbell, 1212 W. Fourth Street.

Sgt. Singpiel was a gunner aboard a Flying Fortress in the European theater, and has been awarded the Distinguished flying Cross, the air medal with three oak clusters and the European theater ribbon with one battle star. He has completed 35 missions. Sgt. Reemts was a supply clerk in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He is entitled to wear the Asiatic Pacific theater ribbon with two battle stars and the distinguished unit citation. Sgt. Thirstrup was a gunner aboard a B-24 and a B-17 in the Mediterranean theater, with 50 missions to his credit. He has been awarded the air medal, the distinguished unit citation and the Mediterranean theater ribbon with two battle stars.

Robert Alvin Thirstrup was born Sept. 20, 1923 to Hans and Adeline Gilbertson Thirstrup. He died Nov. 13, 1990 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
