Sgt. William H. Struyk

Sheldon, Iowa – Special: Sergeant William H. Struyk, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Struyk, Sr. of Sheldon, died of wounds received in battle on May 1 in North Africa. He was a former member of Company 1, Sheldon National Guard unit. Surviving are the parents, two sisters and three brothers, the latter all in the service. Harold and Howard, twins are stationed in North Africa and Staff Sergeant Arie P. Struyk in a United States camp.

William H. Struyk, Jr. was born Mar. 8, 1918 to William H. (Sr.) and Tena Reekers Struyk. He died May 1, 1943 and is buried in North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia.

Sgt. Struyk served in World War II with the U.S. Army 133rd Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division and died of wounds received in action in the North African area. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
