Obituary:

Melvin H. Strait, 93, of Lenox, passed away Tuesday, March 1, at Greater Regional Medical Center, Creston, Iowa.

No services are planned. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Presbyterian Church in Lenox. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston, is in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin Harry Strait, the son of Rolla and Mabel Sophie Katie (Ladendorf) Strait, was born on April 6, 1922, in Soldier. Melvin graduated from Ute High School with the Class of 1940. After graduation, he joined the United States Coast Guard and served from 1942-1946 during World War II. After his discharge from the service, he owned a restaurant business in Lincoln, Neb., for 25 years.

Melvin was united in marriage to Vivian Ruth Moore on Sept. 22, 1951, in Omaha, Neb. In 1965, he and his family moved to Lenox where he began farming. Melvin was a member of the American Legion in Lenox. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, and taking care of his livestock.
Left to cherish Melvin’s memory is his wife, Vivian Ruth Strait, Lenox; his son, Steven (wife Kathleen) Strait, Creston; two grandchildren: Stacie (husband Kirk) Van de Grift, Winfield, Kan.; and Michael (wife Lidia) Strait, Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Virginia Keating, Ute; and numerous nieces, nephew, and other relatives and friends.

Preceding Melvin in death were his parents; his brothers: Norman, Marion, and Floyd; and his sister, Berniece Wimmer.
