Sioux Cityan Is Given Promotion

The war department has announced the promotion of 13 Iowa officers including a former Sioux Cityan, Second Lieut. Wilbur L. Stokley, 22, advanced to a first lieutenant’s rank in the air corps. He is a pilot Lieut. Stokley is a son of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Stokley, route 2. A graduate of Central High School, he was employed for several years as a livestock buyer. He entered service May 1, 1942.

First Lieut. Wilbur L. Stokley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Stokley, who lives on a farm near Sioux City, has been awarded the distinguished flying cross for extraordinary achievement in accomplishing with distinction aerial operational missions over enemy occupied Europe. He is a member of the Second bombardment division of the 491st heavy bombardment group.
