Pvt. John LaVerne Starr

 

 

 

John LaVerne Starr was born Nov. 12, 1913 to John Henry and Elva M. Kline Starr. He died June 10, 2009 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua, IA.

Private Starr served with the 279th Station Hospital in World War II. He served 27 months in the European Theatre, driving all types of army vehicles hauling both troops and supplies. He was also stationed in South Wales for 17 months, transferred to France and then to Germany. He was awarded the Good Conduct and the European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Service medal.
