SERGEANT SPECHT
Sgt. Eldred J. Specht, son of Mrs. Carrie Specht, 1501 Elm street, has been awarded the air medal "for meritorious achievement in aerial flight while participating in sustained operational activities against the enemy." It was announced by the Fifteenth army air force headquarters. A ball turret gunner, Sgt. Specht is stationed in Italy with a veteran Liberator bombardment group which is nearing the 150 mission mark and holds a war department unit citation. A graduate of Dubuque Senior high, he entered the service Oct. 16, 1943, and received his aerial gunnery training at Tyndall Field, Fla.
