Sgt. Winford Richard Smalley

 

 

Winford Richard “Win” Smalley was born Jan. 6, 1918 to Winford and Anna Payne Smalley. He died Aug. 12, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.

Sgt. Smalley served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was MIA/FOD/KIA as a crew member on a B-17 (Flying Fortress) aircraft which was shot down while over enemy territory near Cologne, Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
