Sgt. Frank W. Smalley

 

 

 

Frank Wiltsey Smalley was born Jan. 2, 1920 to John and Elsie Soop Smalley. He died Apr. 11, 1984 an is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Sgt. Smalley served in the European and African Theatres of action in World War II and received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was wounded while serving in North Africa and again while fighting in Germany.

From his obituary: Frank W. Smalley, lifelong Webster City area resident….born January 2, 1920; died April 11, 1984

In April, 1940, he joined the Iowa National Guard and entered the service in 1941, with Co. E, 133rd Infantry battalion at Camp Claiborne, La. He served in the European and African Theatresx of action in World War II. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was discharged in 1945.
