Lavern August Charles Slater was born May 10, 1917 to Fred Charles and Sophia Pauline Thieking Slater. He died Aug. 9, 1942 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Petty Officer Slater served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was KIA while in the service of his country in the Guadalcanal area.
