Recommended For Medal

Sergeant Walter J. Sidler, son of Mrs. Nora Carlson, 1218 Washington Avenue, has been recommended for the Distinguished Flying Cross for his part in the battle at Wake Island. Sergeant Sidler is stationed in Hawaii.

Award Sioux City Sergeant 2 Oak Leaf Clusters

Washington—The war department has announced presentation of awards and decorations to seven Iowans for outstanding achievement and heroism in the South Pacific as members of the 13th Air Forces;

The awards included:

Two bronze oak leaf clusters to air medal: Master Sergeant Walter J. Sidler, Sioux City.

Sergeant Sidler is believed to be a former Sioux Cityan, although there is no record of his having lived here in the last few years. In 1936 a Walter J. Sidler resided at 1218 Washington Avenue, but efforts to locate possible relatives here have failed.
