Pvt. Raymond Edgar Schwieger, Jr.

 

 

Raymond Edgar Schwieger, Jr. was born Feb. 9, 1924 to Raymond Edgar (Sr.) and Berniece Frances Payton Schwieger. He has a cenotaph in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows, IA. He is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing: Court 7, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl), Honolulu, Hawaii.

Pvt. Schwieger served in World War II with the Army Air Corps on a B-29 (#42-24803), 871st Bomber Squadron, 497th Bomber Group, Very Heavy. He was declared MIA when his B-29, while on a bombing mission to Tokyo, collided with another B-29 and crashed in the Pacific ocean. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. His remains were not recovered.
