TRAER - Marine First Lt. Dwight L. Schwab, son of the Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin T. Schwab of Traer, has been awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service on Okinawa.

Lt. Schwab, a graduate of Harvard law school, has served in the Pacific area for more than two years. He was with the first invasion force to land at Okinawa last April 1. He is legal officer and assistant adjutant on the staff of Marine Lt. Gen. Roy S. Geiger.

Lt. Schwab lived in Tokyo from 1914 to 1920 while his parents were serving as missionaries for the Evangelical church. His father taught at Aoyama Gakuin school, one of the largest mission schools in Tokyo. Before the family came to Traer, the Rev. Mr. Schwab served as pastor of the Congregational church at Anamosa.

The lieutenant's younger brother, Staff Sgt. Ward W. Schwab, is stationed in Brazil. A radioman, he is serving on a troop carrier plane returning personnel from the European area. He served in Italy before he was sent to Brazil.

Ward William Schwab was born Jan. 25, 1924 to Benjamin T. and Miriam Louise Knies Schwab. He died Nov. 29, 1977.
