Pvt. Walter Schau

Battle Creek, Iowa – Mr. and Mrs. Jake Schau have been notified by the war department that their son, Pvt. Walter Schau, 29, of the infantry, was killed in action in Italy, August 21. He was inducted into the service May 21, 1942, and left for overseas in December 1943. He served in North Africa and was in action in Iran and Italy. He was wounded in action in Italy May 14, being in a hospital until July 19, when he rejoined his company. He was killed August 21, while with the Fifth army. Pvt. Schau was born in Garfield Township March 14, 1915. He attended rural and public school also high school at Arthur, Iowa.

Walter Abraham Schau was born Mar. 4, 1915 to Jacob and Mata Berendt Schau. He died Aug. 21, 1944 and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, IA.

Pvt. Schau served in World War II with the U.S. Army Co. I, 337th Infantry, 85th Division and was KIA on the Italian front.
