Ensign George Scaboo

Drum Major Now a Flying Ensign

Not so long ago Sioux Cityans admired the stalwart figure of George Scaboo as he strutted in numerous parades as drum major of the Sons of Legion drum corps, but the next time they see him he’ll be wearing the uniform of a flying ensign of the United States Navy.

George enlisted in the navy in January, 1943 and was sent to preflight school at Iowa City. After five months of training he was transferred to the navy school at Ottumwa, Iowa for additional training. After completion of that course, he was sent to the naval air station at Pensacola, Florida and given training which led to his commissioning as a flying ensign on March 15.

George, son of Mrs. Nick Mavros, is 21. He was graduated from Central High School in January, 1941.
