Army Assigns Sioux Cityan As Recruiter Here

S. Sgt. Jean W. Runnels, Jr., veteran of 10 years of army service, has returned to his native city for duty. His assignment to the recruiting station here was announced Wednesday by Maj. W. A. Swinhoe, commanding officer.

Sgt. Runnels, who will make his home with his parents at 2905 Pierce Street, fought in the Leyte and Luzon campaigns. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal for wounds suffered in March 1945, at Timiake, Luzon. He also wears the combat infantryman’s badge and a unit citation.

The sergeant first enlisted in 1936. He reenlisted for the second time December 6, 1945. He was born here September 13, 1917, and attended Central High School.
