NO HEARING FOR SOLDIER

Confessed Slayer of Pvt. Lee Riley Awaits Murder Trial.

Charlotte, N.C.—Pvt. Charles Lewis Reynolds, of Columbus, Ohio, charged with the hotel room murder of Pvt. Lee M. Riley, of Stanhope, Iowa, waived preliminary hearing in city court here Monday without counsel.

Private Riley, 24, was strangled to death with the sleeve of a sweatshirt the night of Feb. 7. Reynolds, 33, was arrested in Columbus 24 hours after Riley’s nude body was found sprawled on a bed.

Reynolds was remanded to jail without privilege of bond to await trial at a term of Mecklenburg county superior court beginning Feb. 28.

Lee M. Riley was born Mar. 21, 1919 to Frank Herbert ‘Bert’ and Anna Sonerholm Riley. He died Feb. 8, 1944 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
