Pvt. Edward H. Pinegar, who has been stationed at the marine base at New River, N. C., is home on furlough for a visit with his mother, Mrs. James Lee Pinegar, 1452, E. Twenty-first st.

Dies on Iwo Jima

Pfc. Edward H. Pinegar, 20, marine, was killed in action Feb. 19, on Iwo Jima, the navy has notified his mother, Mrs. Eliza Harlan, 1500 ½ Maple st.  He was a marine raider in the 4th division.

Private Pinegar attended East High school and entered the marines in February, 1942. He was sent overseas a year ago and saw action in the Marshalls and Marianas before Iwo Jima.

Surviving, besides his mother, is a brother, Lt. William Pinegar, Denver, Colorado.

Edward H. Pinegar was born Sept. 20, 1924 to J. Lee and Eliza Jane Pinegar. He died Feb. 19, 1945 and is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii.
