John Wallace Pence was born Oct. 16, 1920 to Clarence B. and Nellie Myrtle Lillaard Pence. He died Dec. 7, 1941 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 1, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii and in Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, IA.

Petty Officer Pence served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tracy (DM-19) and was MIA/FOD/KIA while serving aboard that vessel during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
