Cpl. Gilbert Pence who was wounded in action in France, has been awarded the Purple Heart, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Frances Pence, Tekamah, Nebraska. Cpl. Pence is a brother of Mrs. Harland McManigal of Hubbard, Nebraska and Mrs. Charles LaScala, 1901 S. Alice Street. Before entering service, Cpl. Pence lived in Sioux City.

Gilbert Waldo Pence was born June 14, 1922 to Joe, Jr. and Frances Pence. He died Sept. 14, 1944 and is buried in Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah, NE.

Cpl. Pence served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
