Pfc. Joseph Olmstead

 

 

IOWA HONOR ROLL

These Iowans, like the many carried here in previous Honor Roll listings, have given their lives for their country. Each one was either killed in actual combat or died in prison camp. The fourth line beneath each photograph indicates the war area in which the Iowan was serving. Additional pictures will be carried on future Sundays.

Joseph Harold Olmstead was born Apr. 25, 1923 to Philip Dewey and Irene Marie Horan Olmstead. He died Aug. 10, 1942 and is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was initially buried in USAF Cemetery Tulagi.

Pvt. Olmstead served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Marine Division and participated in combat operations until KIA on Tulagi, Solomon Islands.
