6 Sioux Cityans Leave Today for Navy Enlistment

Six Sioux Cityans, one of whom will be enlisted in the Seabees, left Tuesday morning for Des Moines to be sworn into the navy.

Marvin C. Eyler, 211 Oakland Street has been accepted for duty with the Seabees, navy engineers unit, as a third class petty officer.

The other recruits were James H. Gerkin, 3910 Peters Avenue; Edward F. Anderson, 507 S. Iowa Street; William E. Johnson, 511 S. Cornelia Street; Peter J. Olbertz, 4900 Correctionville Road and Kenneth J. Winchell, 2912 Ridge Avenue.

Peter Jack Olbertz was born Sept. 13, 1925 to Peter and Margaret C. Dadt Olbertz. He died Jan. 15, 2000 and is buried in Galva Township Cemetery East, Galva, IA.

Peter served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.
