After 38 months of overseas service with the 34th “Red Bull” division, Cpl. Bernard J. Nolan, 23, of Sheldon, is returning home on a 45-day furlough from the Fifth army front in northern Italy. Nolan, a clerk in the 133d infantry regiment’s cannon company, wears the good conduct medal and the European theater ribbon with three battle stars. An original member of the Iowa National guard, Nolan attended Sheldon High School before sailing for overseas service in February 1942.
