Sioux City Naval Officer Is Decorated for Meritorious Service on Okinawa

Okinawa – For his part in maintaining vital communication service despite frequent enemy attacks during the invasion of Okinawa, Lt. Milton S. Miller, U.S.N.R., of Sioux City, received the Bronze Star medal. The award was presented by Brig. Gen. L. A. Lawson, island commander of Okinawa, at a ceremony in his headquarters.
Lt. Miller was officer in charge of a mobile communications unit throughout the Okinawa operation. The citation accompanying his award stated:
“When an emergency required his unit to handle all the exterior radio communications of the island, Lt. Miller, by his initiative and ability speedily, absorbed and successfully accomplished the added mission, thus materially contributing to the success of the Ryukyus campaign.”
His wife, Mrs. Frances M. Miller, and their two-year old son, Harold Edward, live at 201 Webster apartments, Sioux City. Lt. Miller was an architect before entering the navy 31 months ago. He has been in the Pacific theater for 22 months, having taken part in the invasions of the Marshall Islands in January, 1944.
