James McMahon Dies June 12 During Invasion.
Mrs. Beulah McMahon, Algona, was notified Tuesday evening by the war department that her husband, Tech. Sgt. James Harold McMahon, was killed in action June 12, somewhere in France. Further information will be sent her as soon as possible. When last heard from he was stationed in England and it is presumed he took part in the invasion on D-Day, June 6.
Sergeant McMahon was in a division of infantry. He enlisted in April 1942, and while in this country trained at Camp Barkley, Tex.; Camp Claiborne, La.; Fort Dix, N. J., and just previous to embarkation completed desert training in California. He went overseas in March, 1944.
He was born, May 30, 1914, at Mendota, Putnam county Mo. He moved with his parents to Minnesota, and in 1930 came to Algona. In September, 1940, he was married to Beulah Alger.
Mrs. McMahon, a graduate of the Methodist hospital at Mitchell, S. D., is superintendent of nurses at the Kossuth hospital. Her last visit with her husband was in February when he was home on furlough.
Jim’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George McMahon, and two brothers, Warren and Omar, live here. His brother Raymond lives in Sioux City; a sister Ruby, Mrs. Genn Wood, in Charles City; and a sister Bessie, Mrs. Kenneth McCoy, at Bode.

Algona—Mrs. Beulah McMahon received notice from the War Department Tuesday evening that her husband, T/Sgt. James Harold McMahon, had been killed in action June 12 somewhere in France. He enlisted, April, 1942, and received training at Camp Berkeley, Texas; Camp Claiborne, La.; Fort Dix, N.J., and just before embarking overseas he completed training in a desert camp in California.
Sgt. McMahon was married in September, 1940, to Miss Beulah Alger. Mrs. McMahon , a graduate of the Methodist hospital at Mitchell, S. Dak., is superintendent of nurses at the Kossuth hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. George McMahon, parents; brothers, Warren and Omar, all of Algona, a brother, Raymond of Sioux City, 2 sisters, Mrs. Kenneth McCoy of Bode and Mrs. Glen Wood of Charles City, in addition to his wife, survive.

Algona Boy Killed

Memorial Service For Sgt. James H. McMahon, Sunday.
At the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, Aug. 6, 1944, at 3 o’clock , memorial services will be held for Staff Sgt. James H. McMahon, killed in action in Normandy June 12. Sgt. McMahon enlisted in April, 1942, and had visited here with his wife last February. She is superintendent of nurses at the Kossuth hospital. Sgt. McMahon’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Geo. McMahon.

James H. McMahon was born May 30, 1914 to George and Mabel Guffey McMahon. He died June 12, 1944 and is buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
Sgt. McMahon served in World War II with the U.S. Army Co. C, 357th Infantry, 90th Division and was KIA in France. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
