Wayne William McKay was born Aug. 9, 1916 to John W. and Millie E. Christensen McKay. He died Oct. 28, 2002 and is buried in Saint John Lutheran Cemetery, Ringsted, IA.

Sgt. McKay served with the U.S. Army in World War II in the Philippines.

Estherville, Iowa — Services for Wayne McKay, 86, of Estherville were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ringsted. Burial was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Ringsted, with military graveside rites by Christiansen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post 382, Ringsted.

McKay died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at Good Samaritan Center, Estherville. Visitation was at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home, Ringsted.

Wayne W. McKay was born Aug. 9, 1916, in Jewell, son of John W. and Camilla (Christensen) McKay. On Dec. 26, 1941, Wayne was united in marriage to Edna Peitersen in Fairmont, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. Following his discharge from military service, he returned to Ringsted where he and his wife made their home.

Wayne was employed at the elevator in Ringsted. Later the family moved to Gruver where he was employed at Farm Service. In 1955, they moved back to Ringsted where he continued to work for Farm Service and he hauled gasoline for thirty-three years.

Wayne retired in 1978. He enjoyed fishing and gardening for hobbies.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ringsted; was a former member of the Ringsted Fire Department; had served on the Ringsted City Council; and was a member of Christiansen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post 382 Ringsted and Weiby-Johnson VFW Post 5232 in Armstrong.

Survivors include his wife, Edna, of Ringsted, a son, a daughter, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, LaVonne.
