John T. McDermott was born June 24 1915 to James and Esther McDermott. He died July 1, 1945 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Cresco, IA.
Sgt. McDermott served in World War II with the U.S. Army 23rd Armored Engineering Battalion, 3rd Armored Division. He lost his life in a train accident near Nancy, France while on furlough from his station in Germany.
