John Henry Leaf was born Feb. 20, 1922 to Arthur Henry and Marie Johanna Swanson Leaf. He died Mar. 17, 1994 and is buried in South Marion Cemetery, Stratford, IA.

John served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

John Henry Leaf, 72, Boone, died March 17 at the Boone County Hospital. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Fundamental Bible Chapel in Pilot Mound with the Rev. Huebner officiating. Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford. Friends may call at Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m., and at the church from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. the day of the service. The family will be present at the chapel Sunday from 6-8 p.m. to greet family and friends.

John Henry Leaf, the son of Arthur and Marie Swanson Leaf, was born Feb. 20, 1922 in Stratford. He attended rural school and graduated from Stratford High School in 1941. He served in the army during World War II and later farmed in the Dayton and Stratford areas for 20 years.

On November 27, 1955, he married Marjorie Long at Lehigh. He moved to Boone in 1958, where he continued to farm until 1965 when he took employment at Iowa State University in Ames. He retired in 1991 as assistant manager of custodians.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Judy Leaf of Huntsville, Ala., Craig and Kathy Leaf of Boone; daughter and son-in-law, Paul and VaDonna Leaf of Webster City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Ervin Solem of Embarrass, Minn., Doris and John Timm of Utica, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
