Francis Marion LeMaster was born Mar. 14, 1924 to Marion Leslie and Ruth Myrtle Swain LeMaster. He died May 5, 2009 and is buried in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA.

Gunner’s Mate LeMaster served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Francis M. LeMaster, 85, of Urbandale passed away on May 5, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Urbandale. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Westover Funeral Home.

Francis M. LeMaster was born March 14, 1924, in Woodward, Iowa, the son of Marion and Ruth Swain LeMaster. Following graduation from Ogden High School in 1942 he joined the U.S. Navy and served in W.W. II. Following his military service, he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Danielson on November 30, 1946. He began farming in Jewell, Iowa, and then worked as a rural mail carrier for 30 years. He also worked at Queensland's Clothing Store, was the manager of the Jewell swimming pool for 25 years, drove a school bus for the South Hamilton School District and worked at Casey's before moving to Urbandale. He was a member of the American Legion, Masons, South Hamilton School Board, served on the church council at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell and also served as the mayor of Jewell.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Linda (Paul) Martin of Cleveland, Luanne (Rod) Holmes of Salt Lake City, Utah, Laurie (John) Larsen of Cedar Falls, and a son Mark LeMaster of Urbandale; nine grandchildren, Abi, Kelsey and Paige Martin, Kari Thomas, Scott Holmes, Tim, Mark and Sarah Larsen, and Alexis LeMaster; great grandchildren Holly, Austin, Zakery, Whitney, D.J. and Chase; three brothers, Dale, Gerald and Raymond and one sister, Jean Satre and many nieces and nephews.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joyce and Bonnie.
