Sioux Rapids, Iowa – Lieut. Donald O. Landsness, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Oliver Landsness, of Sioux Rapids, died of injuries received in an airplane crash in New Guinea recently. Lieut. Landsness, who is survived by a wife and 3-month – old daughter living at Jesup, Iowa, was a bombardier and has been overseas since April 7, 1943. He was scheduled to have been commissioned a captain three days after his death. He is the first overseas casualty from Sioux Rapids.

Lt. Landsness served with the 498 Bomb Squadron, 345 Bomb Group. He died in New Guinea. Lt. Landsness is buried at Lone Tree Cemetery, Sioux Rapids, Iowa. ~taken from University and public records
