REPORT GARNER AIRMAN MISSING

Flight Officer Knoll B-24 Co-Pilot Bomber

Garner -- Mr. and Mrs. George Knoll of Garner have been notified by the war department that their son, Flight Officer Edmund B. Knoll is missing in action over Germany since March 2. Flight Officer Knoll was a co-pilot on a B-24 bomber. He was home Jan. 1 for about 10 days and went overseas late in January.

Edmund was born and reared here and was graduated from Garner high school in 1940. He had been in service about 2 years.

He has a brother, Sgt. Anthony Knoll, 26, who is in the air corps in France. A sister, Mary Ann Knoll, is employed in Marshalltown.

Anthony Joseph “Tony” Knoll was born Nov. 4, 1918 to George Herman and Elizabeth Dankbar Knoll. He died Mar. 21, 2020 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, IA.
