Cpl. Joseph A. Kehrer

 

 

 

Joseph A. Kehrer was born in 1923 to Joseph and Rose Chalupnik Kehrer. He died Dec. 13, 1944 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Honolulu, Hawaii and has a cenotaph in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City, IA.

Cpl. Kehrer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 500th Bomb Group, 882nd Bomb Squadron as the central fire control gunner aboard B-29-45-BW Super-fortress #42-24687 “Tokyo Local”. He was declared MIA/KIA/FOD after ditching due to battle damage returning from a mission to Nagoya, Japan, with the loss of all eleven crew. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
