Obituary:

Roy T. Johnson, 84, of Dows, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 10, at the Vernon Lutheran Church in rural Dows, with Pastor Paul Thompson and Stan Watne officiating. Burial was in the Vernon Lutheran Cemetery.

Roy, the son of Ted and Hazel Greiner Johnson, was born on March 9, 1921 in rural Williams. He joined the U.S. Air Force on June 6, 1941 and spent three and one half years in the southern Pacific around New Caledonia and Guadalcanal. He then was sent to a base at San Antonio, Texas, where he was discharged in 1945.

On November 1, 1945 Roy married Annabel Patterson in San Antonio.

Roy owned and operated a custom corn shelling and trucking business for forty years. He then started a construction business with cats, a backhoe and dump trucks. Roy loved working around people and said he was never going to retire. When he wasn't working, he loved flying his airplane, fishing and playing music. His talents included playing instruments such as the mandolin, violin, accordion and organ. He could not read music, he played only by ear.

Roy was a member of the Vernon Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees. He also belonged to the Dows American Legion, the Webster City Moose Lodge, and served on the Wright County Board of Review.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in-law; grandson, Michael Johnson; and sister, Irene Cramer.

Survivors include his wife; son, Jerry (Debra) Johnson of alt; grandchildren, Greg (Jennifer) Johnson of Goldfield and Shallon (Joshua) Weis of Galt; great-grandchildren, Whitney and McKayla Johnson and Jacob and Liam Weis; sister, Amy Goodman of Perry; brother, Earl (Lorraine) Johnson of Iowa Falls; sisters and brothers in-law, Gene and June Patterson of Sweet Home, Opal Yoder of Woolstock, Jim and Gwen Anderson of Williams, Myron and Donna Patterson of Webster City and Gene Cramer of Thor.

Roy Theodore Johnson was born Mar. 9, 1921 to Theodore August and Hazel Sarah Greiner Johnson. He died June 7, 2005 and is buried in the Vernon Township Lutheran Cemetery, Dows, IA.

Pvt. Johnson served with the U.S. Army in World War II, spending 3-1/2 years in the southern Pacific around New Caledonia and Guadalcanal.
