Obituary:

Howard P. Johnson left this world on March 2, 2010. He was born Oct. 13, 1918 in Basin, Wyo. He grew up in Webster City, Iowa. He joined the Navy in World War II and after his service, continued to reside in San Diego, Calif.

He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, dancing and being with a large community of good friends. His last 10 years were a special gift because of the love and wonderful times spent with his dance partner, Arlene Keefer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Johnson; father, H. F. Johnson; mother, Margret Johnson; brother, Roland Johnson; and his grandson, Russell McMullen.

He is survived by a loving family including son, Paul Pletka; daughter, Jan Johnson; stepdaughters, Janice McMullen, Sharon Terrett and Linda Buckland; nieces, Linda Taylor and Phyllis Johnson; and many grandchildren, relatives and friends who will miss his laughter.

"He was my sweetheart and dancing partner," writes Mrs. Keefer.

Howard Paul Johnson was born Oct. 13, 1918 to Howard Frank and Margaret Heller Johnson. He died Mar. 2, 2010 and is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ.

Petty Officer Johnson served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.
