Curtis Wilton Johnson was born Feb. 5, 1925 to Jesse M. and Mathilda F. Ringstad Johnson. He died Nov. 28, 1995 and is buried in Homewood Cemetery, Ellsworth, IA.

Curtis served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Curtis Johnson, 70, Ellsworth, died Nov. 28, 1995, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, with Rev. Michael Herschberger officiating. Burial will follow at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. The family will be present from 6 to 8 pm. There will be a prayer service with the family at 7:30 p.m.

Curtis Wilton Johnson, son of Jesse M. and Mathilda Ringstad Johnson, was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Radcliffe. He attended country schools and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1942. He attended Iowa State Teachers College and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. On June 24, 1949, he married Carolyn Maurstad in Armstrong. The couple farmer near Story City until 1955, when they returned to Ellsworth to farm. He retired in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Johnson, Ellsworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Curtis Frost, Gales Ferry, Conn., Cynthia and Steven Hockman, Ankeny, Christine and Rodney Smith, DeSoto, Texas, Carleen and David Anderson, Story City, Celeste and James Bresette, Columbia, Md., Colleen and Keith Maranto, Frankfort, Ill,; 15 grandchildren; brother J. Merlin Johnson, Radcliffe; sister and brother-in-law, J. Clarine and Edward Boyken, Titonka. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, where he served as deacon, president, secretary, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He also was a member of the American Legion, served on the Board of Directors of the Ellsworth Cooperative Turkey Plant and had been a Scott Township trustee.
