Frederick Henry ‘Fritz’ Ioerger was born Dec. 30, 1923 to Frederick W. and Luella Henderson Ioerger. He died Sept. 8, 2003 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, IA.

Fritz served with the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II.

Frederick (Fritz) Ioerger, age 79, of Jewell, died Monday, September 8, 2003 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames from complications of cancerous multiple myeloma. Funeral services will be at 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2003 at the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell with Pastor Bob Williams to officiate. A visitation/reception will follow at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell to help continue its positive effect in our community.

Fritz was born December 30, 1923, in Williams to Frederick William and Luella Tomina (Henderson) Ioerger. He was a 1941 graduate of Ellsworth High School. During World War II Fritz served 18 months at sea with the Merchant Marines. He returned to Hamilton County and worked in agriculture and in the insurance industries. On April 19, 1947, he married Belva Elaine Pickell of Ames in Omaha, Nebraska. She died in a car accident on May 25, 1952.

Fritz is survived by his daughters, Debera Kay Fish of Jewell and Rebecca Susan Darnell and husband, Don, of Des Moines; granddaughter Ericca Lee Greuebel and husband, Jason, of Bondurant; grandson William Brandt Marshall and wife, Laurel, and great-granddaughter Emma Marie Marshall of Minneapolis, Minnesota, step-grandchildren Douglas Darnell and wife Julie and children, Delaney and Drew, and Dennis Darnell and fiancee Lisa Allen of Oakland, California; and his sisters, Gladys Evelyn Lindsley and Ruth Leah Street, both of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Helen Fern Scamell.
