William Hof 1st German Prisoner to Reach Algona

Sgt. William Hof, first returning German war prisoner, arrived last week Sunday on a 60-day furlough with his wife and children here.  He reached New York and telephoned Mrs. Hof Memorial Day.  Gunner on a B-17 bomber, he had been overseas since November, and on December 31 was taken prisoner while on a mission over Germany.

Hof was imprisoned at many places, finally from Nuremberg was transferred to Mooseberg, and there liberated.  On arrival here, he saw his baby daughter, Jorine, for the first time.

Monday the sergeant and his family went to Luverne to visit Hof’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edw. G. Hof, farmers.
